ARTIMO FINE ART

Curated with Passion, Preserved with Precision.

ABOUT THE GALLERY

Artimo specializes in the acquisition and sale of exceptional works of art and objets de vertu, focusing primarily on sculptures and horology. In the realm of fine art, our expertise is centered on 19th- and early 20th-century marble sculptures, with occasional works in bronze. Over decades of trade, we have developed a deep knowledge of these artistic disciplines. In the world of horology, our commercial and technical expertise spans the entire history of horology, from rare Renaissance clocks to vintage watches from the 1950s, as well as highly valuable pocket watches.

FAMILY HISTORY

Founded in 1985 by the Van Cauwenbergh family, Artimo SA is located in the heart of Brussels’ prestigious Sablon antiques district, at 33 Rue Lebeau, 1000 Brussels. On March 10, 2017, after extensive restoration, we opened a second gallery in a listed historical building on the same street, at n°55. This space was inaugurated with the exhibition “Living Marble,” showcasing a collection of over 60 marble sculptures by Belgian artists from 1800 to 1930, complete with a fully illustrated and documented catalogue. In recognition of the restoration, Artimo received an award from the city of Brussels in November 2017.

The passion for art within the Van Cauwenbergh family spans three generations. It began with founder Marcel, a Belgian post-war industrialist with a deep love for fine art. His son, Luc, was instrumental in the expansion and international reach of Artimo. Today, Georges, Luc’s son and current Director of Artimo, continues to drive the gallery’s global presence, ensuring the preservation of the family’s passion for art through the generations.

OUR CONTRIBUTION

Through Artimo’s dedication to excellence, many significant works have found their way into the collections of major museums worldwide. Notable sales include sculptures and timepieces to the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Patek Philippe Museum in Geneva, and specialized institutions such as the Greenwich Royal Observatory. One example is the “Sully C,” one of the twelve most important timepieces in history, which played a key role in the discovery of longitude at sea. Once part of Artimo’s collection, this timekeeper is now permanently displayed alongside the famous Harrison clocks at the Greenwich Royal Observatory.

Artimo maintains an extensive library with thousands of reference books and up-to-date, detailed documentation on each piece in our collection. Additionally, we provide a recognized certificate of authenticity for every work of art we offer.
