The sculpture by Félix-Maurice Charpentier, in white Carrara marble, depicts a beautiful naked young woman getting up in the morning and stretching her arms and legs.

The original sculpture in marble is 238,5 cm high and is actually owned by the Musée des Beaux-Arts of Arras in France. There is a reduced plaster model of the present sculpture exhibited at the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Tournai in Belgium.

This sculpture is signed Fx. Charpentier for Félix-Maurice Charpentier (1858 – 1924). Félix Charpentier is born in France in Bollène-Vaucluse. He studied at the School of Fine Arts under the direction of the sculptor Cavelier. After finishing his studies, he regularly exhibits at Parisian exhibitions and is decorated Officer of the Legion of Honour.

Charpentier is one of the most remarkable masters of contemporary sculpture. His technique is characterised by a strong feeling of power and expression. His work is fairly free and gets all its charm from the beauty of the shapes. He is a master of perfect harmony. Charpentier is today represented in several museums in France and author of several public monuments as the « Grand palais » and the « Façade of the Gare de Lyon » in Paris.
