Beautiful bust in white Carrara marble on a black veined white marble base. The sculpture represents a head and upper body of a smiling young woman wearing an extravagantly sized hat. Her robe is decorated with ribbons, a rose and flower motifs. 

The figure is signed « Henri Godet».

Born in Paris on 5 March 1863, Henri Godet was a prolific sculptor and medal engraver who made many sculptures in bronze but very few in marble. He was particularly known for his numerous busts of women decorated with flowers. This very specialised artist promoted his works himself and exhibited regularly at the Salons from 1883 until his death. Terracotta sketches by Henri Godet are preserved in the Musée d’Orsay.
