A beautiful art déco sculpture in white Carrara marble representing the goddess Diana accompanied by a doe. This sculpture is a fine example of a purely Art Deco style dating from the beginning of the 20th century, c.1910 and is signed by the artist.
Charles-Eugène Breton, born in Tours, France in 1878, was a painter and sculptor who studied under the talented sculptors Denys Puech, Louis-Ernest Barrias and Raoul Verlet. From the beginning of the 20th Century, Breton exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français. He won several medals, including one at the 1904 Salon. From 1929 he exhibited at the Salon des indépendants des peintures et des sculptures. Thanks to his longevity, Breton is an artist who crossed several styles, from Neoclassical to Romantic to Art Deco. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français until 1939.
